Land Acknowledgement

Canadian Academy of Defensive Driving Inc.

Honouring the Traditional Territories

Canadian Academy of Defensive Driving Inc. respectfully acknowledges that our headquarters and primary operations are located on the traditional Indigenous territories of the Huron-Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Markham, Ontario, where our academy is based, sits on lands that have been inhabited and stewarded by Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. These lands are part of the traditional territory covered by Treaty 13, signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties, signed with multiple Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee communities.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

As an organization committed to safety, responsibility, and community, we believe that acknowledging the history of the land we occupy is a necessary step toward meaningful reconciliation.

We recognize the enduring presence, resilience, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Ontario and across Canada. We are grateful for the opportunity to live, work, and teach on this land, and we commit to:

A Call to Action

Land acknowledgement is only meaningful when paired with action. We encourage our students, staff, and community partners to learn more about the Indigenous nations whose territories we share, to support Indigenous businesses and organizations, and to advocate for policies that advance reconciliation and Indigenous rights.

For more information about the traditional territories of Markham and the Greater Toronto Area, we recommend visiting the websites of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Huron-Wendat Nation, and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
